The user interface

Almost everything in IntraNote Portal Server happens on dashboards. A dashboard is a page in IPS, and every dashboard has a unique alias, which is used for accessing the dashboard. For instance, if the intranet/extranet is accessed by writing "intranet/" in the browser's address field, a dashboard is accessed by writing "intranote/[dashboard alias]" in the browser's address field. The home page's alias is often "home", so it has the address "intranet/home".

It is possible to restrict access to a dashboard with rights, so that only select users/groups can see the dashboard.

Below is a dashboard, which contains a number of different elements:

1. Weblets
   There is a number of weblets that can be displayed on a dashboard. These include weblets for displaying the dashboard's title, the dashboard's subtitle, the dashboard's logo, the current user's user name and the date and time. There are also weblets, that allow interaction. These include a link menu, an incon menu, a presence picker and a search weblet.
   Weblets are positioned on the dashboard by simply specifying a vertical and a horisontal distance from the dashboard's right top, left top, right bottom or left bottom. This makes it possible to position weblets anywhere on a dashboard.
    
2. Webparts
   Webparts contain a lot of the more advanced functionality in IPS. There are webparts for displaying navigations, displaying Infobase items, displaying employee information and much more.
   Webparts are placed in so-called "webpart zones" on a dashboard. This makes it possible to create manageable layout.
   All webparts have a title bar, which is hidable. Depending on the webpart, the title bar can contain a number of buttons. This could be buttons for minimising/maximising the webpart, creating Infobase items and reloading webpart content.
   It is also possible to set rights for webparts, and this makes it possible to only make the webpart visible for certain people.
